About the Mythos series oil paintings

Each oil painting in the Mythos series can be viewed as a stand-alone piece or seen as part of a collective narrative through a fantastic world in which you the viewer create create your own myth.

The paintings themselves are oils on canvas.  Mr. Kavoukles begins each one by randomly placing transparent washes of oil colors across the face of the canvas and allows the imagery that is suggested by the washes to guide him thorough the process of completing each work.  Often times, he will change course in order to be true to the next direction that he sees within the painting.  Because these works are driven by the process, the artist is always surprised by the outcome.  In fact, it is this method that is considered the true surrealism.
